A Gastric Pacemaker To Go

If it was only about the money, we would've organized a campaign a long time ago to pay for a pacemaker. I'm creative. I know some people. We would have come up with something.

The right referral to the right specialist at the right centre and $40- 50,000 in non-sequential bills doesn't necessarily resolve this for me.

It's not that simple. I'm at the right centre. I've got the motility Specialist. The technical expertise is available. The desire is at hand.

An important element of GES treatment involves maintenance and follow up. Longitudinal care.

I am a complex patient with a complex care plan. Traveling to the U.S. or another center to have a new pacemaker inserted is just not practical. Besides the costs and risks associated with the procedure, I would become an orphan again at home in Ontario.

When you need care or assistance, it's no good being an orphaned patient. A stray. The patient the docs here would take care of just because I kept coming around.

That's what I feel like. Like the stray cat Heavy, scratching at the door until the paint peels, hoping that the next time the door opens, there will be something for me.
