What does $40,000 Buy?

The Savings to the Ministry of Health could have been used for:

With $80,000:
8 breast cancer survivors could have post-mastectomy reconstructive surgery

With $60,000:

1 full-time counsellor in a Youth mental health Outpatient Clinic.

With $40,000:

0.4 FTE staff in the TPN Clinic. Two additional days each week that an RN could be on hand to address patient needs.

Treat another patient who has severe gastroparesis with GES Therapy.

With $36,000:

Three cancer patients could receive intravenous drug therapy, each receiving a full course of treatment (6 cycles of therapy) using one of several new anticancer drugs.

With $30,000:

Vaccinate 83 women with Gardasil, a vaccine proven to protect against HPV. HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer. About 400 women die from cervical cancer in Canada every year.

0.3 Full-time Equivalent RN coverage in the Home Parenteral Nutrition Clinic. That's one additional RN covering 1-½ day in the clinic.

With $27,000:

1 patient could receive photopheresis treatment (currently under review by OHTAC)

With $20,000:

0.2 Full-time Equivalent RN coverage in the Home Parenteral Nutrition Clinic. That's one additional RN covering one full day in the clinic.

Treating 1 MS patient with Plasma Exchange Therapy

Rituxan treatment for 1 patient (IV drug therapy for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma).

1 Coronary Bypass Operation.

A food bank in Ontario could acquire and distribute about $160,000 of food.
